Vital to the Library's existence, volunteers play an integral role by providing valuable services to assist both the staff and the public. Our goal is to place volunteers in areas that will provide a satisfying experience and help the Library.
Assignments include:
- CIRCULATION AIDE - Sorts and shelves returned library materials. Checks in returned books. Shelf reads and straightens materials.
- PROCESSING BOOKS - Prepares books to go on the shelf when they are received from the publisher. Attention to detail is a must.
- PROJECT LITERACY TUTOR - Adult literacy tutoring on a one-to-one basis.
- LIBRARY GRANDPARENTS - Storytime volunteers read aloud to young children on a drop-in basis in the Children's department.
- HOMEBOUND VOLUNTEER - Delivers materials and provides individualized service to Howard County residents who are confined to their homes.
- MUSICAL TALENT - Musical performers for a variety of library functions and performances are needed. Both individuals and groups are welcome.
- ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT - Varied office duties and clerical assistance.
- SUMMER READING PROGRAM - Teens ages 13 and up assist staff with summer reading programs, craft programs and other tasks as assigned.

and online.
(Volunteers must be at least 13 years of age and parental consent
is required for applicants under 16.) Please return completed applications
