Full-time Information Specialist & Instructor (Adult Services) – Miller Branch Starting Salary $36,669 , Growth to $64,299
Department Responsibility

Essential Functions
- Ability to live the Five Pillars of our strategic plan: Customer Loyalty; Everyone a Leader; Thinking Outside the Box; Winning Teamwork; and Community Partnerships
- Provides information and reader’s advisory service to the public by answering queries in person, by telephone, or other electronic means
- Regularly participates in collection maintenance and shelf-reading assignments
- Participates in staff training and development
- Assists with planning public events, seminars and classes which reflect the programming goals of the system
- Serves as passport specialist
- Participates in LATI (Library Associate Training Institute)
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance
- Adheres to all policies and procedures
- Actively supports and promotes our vision, mission and values
Other Duties
- May act as back-up at other public service desks within the library system
- May assist with closing and building security on an assigned basis
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Controls Over Work
Works under the supervision of the Information Services Supervisor.
Education, Experience and Skills Required*
- Four year college degree
- People skills – ability to work well with others and enjoy it
- Demonstrated interest in working with the public
- Knowledge of Library’s collection in all formats currently available
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead groups, committees and other planning structures
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems, to develop new processes and procedures in response to changing customer expectations and system-wide goals
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with diverse groups such as government leaders, the library community, and with staff and the public
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in English effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing
- Knowledge of the community and current events
- Knowledge of library policies and procedures
- Computer literacy – ability to use programs/processes such as the Internet, electronic databases, Linux, OpenOffice and other word processing applications, as well as other library related programs
- Current valid driver’s license
Physical Standards
Job allows for some variance in work routine and considerable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling and sitting. In addition, strenuous activity is required, such as carrying bags or boxes of books (weighing up to 30 lbs.) or arranging rooms for programs. Some driving required.
*The Executive Director & CEO may substitute demonstrated work-related experience or skills for the specific degree requirement of any position.
Hours:
37.5 hour work week,
Monday – Saturday including two nights per week,
Alternating Fridays and Saturdays,
Maximum two Sundays out of four
