The Renaissance of Oella
After Oella came close to disappearing in the 1970s between the mill closing and Hurricane Agnes, maverick visionary Charles L. Wagandt, of Oella Company, Inc., spearheaded the Oella renaissance. Wagandt explains how he reinvented the village through decades of hard work, determination, and creativity. He addresses the challenges of rebuilding the community and its dwellings to maintain a sense of history, as Oella was founded along the Patapsco River in 1808 as a thriving mill town.

Wagandt has held various positions in W.J. Dickey & Sons textile mill company and won multiple historic preservation awards, including the Senator James Clark, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award; Preservation Maryland President's Award, 2007; and the Maryland Historic Trust Calvert Prize, 2008.

In partnership with Patapsco Heritage Greenway and Howard County Historical Society.
