Meet the Author: S. Brent Morris Ph.D., 33°

"House of the Temple
8:33 p.m.”

These are the very first words in the prologue of Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol, and coincidentally, this is where S. Brent Morris goes every morning. The House of the Temple in Washington, DC is where he works, and it symbolizes his passion — participation in and the study of Freemasonry.

S. Brent Morris, Ph.D., 33° is the managing editor of the Scottish Rite Journal and the author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Freemasonry, as well as several other books on Freemasonry. Dr. Morris is a Masonic historian, the only American member and Past Master of Quatuor Coronati Lodge No. 2076 (the Masonic research lodge in London), and is considered an expert on Freemasonry both nationally and internationally.

Long before The Lost Symbol, Dr. Morris was interviewed by ABC, NBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and National Public Radio in addition to several international radio and TV stations. Since the book’s release he continues to receive requests for interviews and has been approached for answers regarding terms and symbols used in the book, as well as questions on Freemasonry in general.

On December 14 at 7:00 pm, at Central Library, Dr. Morris will talk about some of the symbology and terms used in The Lost Symbol and, by way of PowerPoint, will present a behind-the-scenes tour of the rooms mentioned in the book. You will see where Dan Brown took license, both poetic and otherwise, in the writing of the book. There will be a question and answer period, as well as an opportunity to purchase a personalized copy of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Freemasonry. This will be a great opportunity to “see” inside The Lost Symbol as well as the House of the Temple, and to get a head start on your holiday shopping!  Be sure to register for this event, either online or by calling the Library.
