Support and promote hands-on learning. Items in this collection are for automotive repair, household repair, gardening, crafts, kitchen, outdoor adventure and more. Anyone age 21+ who would like to borrow from the DIY Collection can apply in person at the Elkridge Branch with a valid ID.

Borrowing Information

• Branches: Elkridge Branch
• Loan Period: 1 week
• Borrowing Limit: 5 items per visit, 5 maximum
• Renewals: 2 automatic renewals, if not requested by another community member
• Hold Limit: 4 simultaneous requests. Pick up within 3 days once available.
• Requestable Online: Yes, with a DIY card. Select DIY at Elkridge Branch as the pickup location. Items are held for 3 days.
• Overdue Fines: $2 per day, $30 maximum; seniors exempt

Eligibility

• Apply in person
• 21 years and older
• Present a valid Photo ID
• The DIY library card must be renewed every year, and you may use it only to borrow items from the DIY Education Center.
• A liability waiver and release must be signed as part of the initial card application, and again each year thereafter.

 

Visit the Elkridge Branch

Requesting

• Request by phone, in person, or online by selecting “DIY at Elkridge Branch” as the pickup location.
• DIY materials will not be sent to other HCLS branches for pickup.

Pickup & Return

• Pick up at the desk of the DIY Education Center at Elkridge Branch.
• Please clean before returning.
• Return to the Elkridge DIY Education Center.
• Sewing machines should be returned to the branch (Elkridge or Glenwood) from which they were borrowed.
• Returned items will be inspected for missing or damaged parts before being cleared from your account.
• Do not return to a book drop, other HCLS branch, or other library system in Maryland.

Loss & Damage

• Lost or stolen items: Full replacement cost + $4 fee.
• Missing parts: Cost varies.
• No replacements accepted for lost, damaged, or incomplete items.
